  4. ° e-mail notification:  KIU can send e-mail messages to you, actively alerting you of certain events. When enabled, KIU will send e-mail notifications when
  5. - an application gets relaunched

  10. ° Alarms: KIU can monitor the memory and disk resources of your Mac. If free memory or disk space falls below a certain preset level, this will trigger an alarm and send an e-mail notification.

  13. ° the "view logfile" command allows you to choose which part of the logfile you wish to see.

  16. Version 2.3 changes

  18. • The way KIU restarts your Macintosh has been changed in this version. Please consult the Keep It Up Manual, section "Restart Options" for more details on these new features.
  19. -Clean Restart: KIU asks all applications to quit, then waits until all applications have quit before proceeding with the restart. 
  20. -Forced Restart: KIU asks all applications to quit but after a given time period KIU will proceed with the restart, even if some applications have not yet terminated. This way, a Forced Restart closes as many applications as possible, but also ensures your Mac always restarts and becomes available again. If availability of your server is very important, select this method. 
  21. -Clean/Forced restart settings are now valid for both a scheduled restart and a restart triggered by an application which  quit.
  22. -KIU now remains in control of the entire restart process, preventing KIU from being terminated before the Restart process is completed. 
  23. -During the Restart/Shutdown process, the webserver remains functional and additional commands may be executed.
  24. -If you use Okey Dokey, you must set the Okey Dokey activation time to less than 60 seconds for compatibility reasons with KIU.

  26. • the location of the logfile has been changed from the System Folder to the Preferences Folder to be compatible with the Mac OS 9 Multiple Users feature. The logfile is now called "KIU logfile". To avoid confusion, you should remove the old logfile from the System Folder. If you have an alias for the logfile in the KIU Weblog Items, you should update this alias.

  28. • KIU 2.3 is compatible with Mac OS 9. If you enable the Multiple Users feature, I recommend to always use the "Open KIU Items" Applescript to open the various Keep It Up folders. This script will always open the correct folders for the current user.

  61. • KIU can now be used to perform remote management of your Mac using a webbrowser. KIU has a tiny "embedded" webserver that allows you to remotely:

  69. • The "Quit" and "Preferences" menu items can be password protected, to prevent unauthorized tampering with KIU.

  71. • The "Keep Application In Front" feature is now only activated every 5 seconds, to prevent lockout situations. Note: in order for an application to be "kept in front", the alias must end with ".1" (dot one) unlike previous versions of KIU which merely required the alias to end with "1". This to prevent accidental activation of this feature.

The version 1.3 archive contains an 68000 and PowerPC version of KIU.  This allows you to still run the 68K version on a PowerPC. The 68K version only uses 150Kb RAM versus 240Kb for the PowerPC version. Because KIU uses by nature very little processor power, there should not be much performance difference.
